Yusuf Pathan plot cleared by Vadodara civic body; 500 sq m as gift
Vadodara Municipal Corporation's standing committee on Friday approved a 978 sq m plot in Tandalja for former cricketer Yusuf Pathan: 500 sq m as a gift and the rest at 55% of its assessed value.

The Yusuf Pathan plot proposal was approved unanimously by the Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) standing committee on Friday, 23 October, DeshGujarat reported. The 978 sq m civic plot is in Tandalja, near the former India cricketer's home, at Town Planning Scheme 22, Final Plot No. 90.
Terms of the Yusuf Pathan plot allotment
Under the proposal, 500 sq m will be transferred to Pathan as a gift. The remaining 478 sq m will be allotted at 55% of the assessed valuation, a 45% concession. The state government approved a fresh proposal in August 2026, and the municipal commissioner placed it before the standing committee this month.
The state government resolution treats the case as a special one that will not set a precedent for other allotments, according to the report. The Revenue Department is to give VMC land of equal value in return. Further approvals under municipal procedures will decide when the transfer is completed.
A dispute that goes back to 2012
In 2012, Pathan sought the plot on a 99-year lease, citing security concerns as an international cricketer. The VMC agreed to allot it without a public auction and sent the proposal to the state. In June 2014 the state rejected it, saying the land should go through a public auction. The VMC later alleged that the plot had been fenced and occupied.
In June 2024 the VMC issued a notice to remove the alleged encroachment. Pathan challenged it in the Gujarat High Court. In August 2025 the court upheld the 2014 rejection. He later withdrew his appeal, on 31 August 2026, according to DeshGujarat.
Protest outside the meeting
Congress leaders and workers staged a protest outside the meeting hall. Congress city president Ritvij Joshi alleged preferential treatment and asked why ordinary citizens pay rent for municipal plots while a former cricketer gets a concession.
The reports did not include a response from Pathan to the decision.
