Corrections policy
We aim to correct material errors promptly and transparently.
- Correction: A factual error is fixed and a note is added to the article describing the change and date.
- Clarification: Wording is clarified where it could mislead despite being factually accurate.
- Update: New confirmed information is added to a developing story, with the update time noted.
- Retraction: If a story is materially unsupported or wrong and cannot be repaired, an editor may withdraw it and explain why.
- We do not silently change a material fact after publication. Routine spelling or formatting fixes may be made without a note unless they alter meaning.
- Requests should include the article URL, headline, specific claim at issue, reason it may be wrong, and supporting evidence.
- The editor logs the complaint, acknowledges it, investigates against original sources, seeks a response where needed, records the decision and tells you the outcome.
