PM Modi Gujarat Visit: Why These Two Days Matter

The Prime Minister's visit to his home state came at a symbolic moment. On 7 October 2026, Narendra Modi completed 25 years since he first took oath as head of a government, as Chief Minister of Gujarat on 7 October 2001. This was his first visit to Gujarat after crossing that milestone, and both he and Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel referred to it during the Banaskantha event.

The schedule was split into two clear themes. Day one, in North Gujarat, focused on farmers, dairy, livestock science, roads, metro rail and child welfare. Day two, at Ekta Nagar near the Statue of Unity, focused on national unity, tourism infrastructure and the annual tribute to Sardar Patel, India's first Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister, who led the integration of the princely states after Independence.

Day 1 (30 October): PM Modi in Banaskantha

Visit to the Bharat Bovine Breeding and Research Centre

Around 9:30 AM on Friday, the Prime Minister visited the Embryo Transfer Technology–In Vitro Fertilisation (ET-IVF) Laboratory and the cattle farm of the Bharat Bovine Breeding and Research Centre (BBBRC) at Bhildi in Banaskantha district. He later dedicated the centre to the nation.

Spread over 127 acres, the BBBRC has been set up as a state-of-the-art Centre of Excellence for bovine breeding, genetic upgradation and advanced reproductive technologies. According to the Prime Minister's Office, the centre is expected to speed up breed improvement by 10 to 20 times. It is the country's first facility of its kind dedicated to the Kankrej breed, a hardy indigenous cattle breed native to North Gujarat and Rajasthan.

In his speech, PM Modi said the centre would help improve indigenous cattle breeds such as Gir, Sahiwal and Kankrej, and buffalo breeds such as Mehsana, Murrah and Jaffarabadi. He explained that technologies like IVF allow livestock owners to pass on the qualities of high-yielding, healthy and low-maintenance animals to future generations.

PM-KISAN 24th Instalment Released from Bhildi

The biggest announcement for farmers across India was the release of the 24th instalment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN). The event was celebrated nationally as PM Kisan Utsav Diwas.

  • Amount released: More than ₹18,680 crore
  • Beneficiaries: Over 9.34 crore farmer families across India
  • Amount per farmer: ₹2,000, credited directly to bank accounts through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT)

  • Total so far: More than ₹4.47 lakh crore had been disbursed through the first 23 instalments

Under PM-KISAN, eligible farmer families receive ₹6,000 a year in three equal instalments of ₹2,000. In Gujarat, the programme was telecast live at 34 district-level events and more than 2,100 cluster-level events, where approval letters under various agriculture and horticulture schemes were also distributed.
