Marco Rubio visits Reliance's Jamnagar refinery as US pushes energy trade with India
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio visited Reliance Industries' refinery complex in Jamnagar on Wednesday, as the US pushes India to buy more American energy.

Marco Rubio's Jamnagar visit on Wednesday, 21 October, took the US Secretary of State to Reliance Industries' refinery complex in Gujarat, during a three-day trip to India focused on energy trade, Business Today reported. He was accompanied by the US Ambassador to India, Sergio Gor, and was received by the Ambani family.
Why Marco Rubio went to Jamnagar
Reliance describes Jamnagar as the world's largest and most complex single-site refining complex. It can process about 1.4 million barrels of crude oil a day and handles more than 216 grades of crude.
Before travelling to Jamnagar, Rubio spoke in Mumbai, where he called India a crude oil refining "superpower" and urged it to process more Venezuelan crude, according to the report.
Energy trade at the centre
Gor said in a post on X that India's imports of US liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) had risen from under 10% to 67% over the past year, making the United States India's largest LPG supplier.
He also described Reliance's planned refinery in Brownsville, Texas, which he called the first new US oil refinery in 50 years, as a major opportunity to expand American energy production and create jobs.
No new deal announced
The reports did not say whether any agreements were signed during the Jamnagar stop.
